NGC 1531 & NGC 1532 interacting pair

Data set : 10H20 bundle bought on Telescope Live made with CHI-1 telescope at El Sauce Observatory, Chile, and taken from to september to december 2021.

NGC1531 and NGC1532 are a pair of gravitationally interacting galaxies located about 50 millions light years away in the Eridanus constellation.

The largest of the two is the barred spiral NGC 1532 which appears almost edge on, while the smallest one is the dwarf galaxy NGC1531 which appears as a mere distortion, as most of the galaxy has already been stripped of the bulk of its material.
This interaction caused intense stars formation in the foreground spiral as evidenced by the young and bright blue star clusters located all along the front spiral arm.
Although NgC1532 is seen almost from the edge, astronomers believe this system looks like the famous spiral pair seen from the front and its companion known as M51, the Whirlpool Galaxy.

NGC1531 et NGC1532 sont une paire de galaxies en interaction gravitationnelle situées à environ 50 millions d'années-lumière dans la constellation de l'Eridan.

La plus grande des deux est la spirale barrée NGC 1532 qui apparaît presque de face, tandis que la plus petite est la galaxie naine NGC1531 qui apparaît distordue car dépouillée de l'essentiel de sa matière.
Cette interaction a provoqué une intense formation d'étoiles dans la spirale d'avant-plan, comme en témoignent les jeunes et brillants amas d'étoiles bleues.
Bien que NgC1532 soit vue presque par la tranche, les astronomes pensent que ce système est semblable à la célèbre galaxie vue de face et son compagnon, M51 la galaxie du tourbillon.
